9 Months, 29 Days.

It’s that time again, though it’s come earlier than expected.

Last August, I started a writing challenge. I challenged myself to write 5000 words a day.
I completed the challenge (and a novel) in 12 days. It wasn’t easy though. By the sixth day I was already burned out. The goal then was to see if I could do it. That simple. How fast can I write a book?

Well, this year, the challenge is a little different. I’m at the beginning of the summer instead of the end and this time it’s because I’m in a, somewhat, desperate situation (okay, I’m  a very dramatic person, so desperate might be a slight overstatement!).
In my last post, I mentioned a project (let’s call it WIP #1) I decided to focus on while my other manuscript is on submission. It’s my NaNoWriMo project from last year. I love the premise and, as of this morning, the plot got a lot juicier.

Then...

I called my dad this afternoon to wish him Happy Father’s Day and he asked about the book on submission. I explained the situation and updated him on the stats and then we got to talking about an idea I had sometime last year (let’s call this one WIP #2).

This idea incorporates my cultural background and my love for all things supernatural. I’d stopped writing it back then because I wasn’t sure I could. I like the light stuff, when it comes to writing, but when it comes to reading I LOVE the scary stuff. I’m just not sure if I can do the same with my own work.

Well, the other day I wrote the synopsis for WIP #2 and realized that I probably could write it if I tried hard enough and dug deep enough.

Still, I have WIP #1, and I don’t want to make it wait any longer. But after talking to my dad today, I really believe it’s time to tackle WIP #2. So what’s a girl to do?
Well, since I can’t decide which one is better to focus on, tomorrow I’ll start...

Summer Writing Challenge 2012
  • Tackle 2 WIPS
  • 2500-5000 words each , per day
Hopefully, I’m not biting off more than I can chew.

Either way, wish me luck!

  1. Yikes, that's a lot of words. I wish I could do it with you because I REALLY need to get this brand-spanking new WIP off the ground. So is WIP #2 the one you started in YAFF last year? The one I LOVE! :)

  2. Hey, Jenn! Yes it is! And it's already busting my brain. I decided to start from the beginning and I only got 500 words in. Pathetic...lol. I don't know why this is so hard to write. Ah, well. The days not over yet!

  3. Yay! So glad. What I read felt so rich and interesting. Different from what's out there, and we need stories of "color" that aren't just urban. I understand about the words being slow. Hope today's a better day. :)
